Two days of ceremonies at Harlem’s Abyssinian Baptist Church last week allowed associates, comrades, family and friends of acclaimed Kemetaphysician Dr. Yosef A.A. ben-Jochannan the opportunity to pay their final respects before he was interred at Ferncliff Cemetery Friday afternoon.

While there is no dismissing the glorious encomiums for the late Dr. Yosef A.A. ben-Jochannan—and they were as full of praise as the many dispensers—the priceless item at his more than three-hour funeral service at the Abyssinian Baptist Church in Harlem was the printed program.

Dr. Yosef Alfredo Antonio ben-Jochannan (“Dr. Ben”)  was the preeminent “Multi-Genius of Our Time.” Therefore, he cannot be defined or scrutinized by Western academic standards, given the fact that he forever altered how classical African civilizations, in particular the Nile Valley, can be viewed and examined in colleges and throughout the global African community.

May 19, 2010, Dr. Yosef ben-Jochannan, aka “Dr. Ben,” cried at the gravesite of Malcolm X and Dr. Betty Shabazz. He told those gathered for the annual Malcolm X pilgrimage to the Westchester County cemetery that it was the first time he had been back since he had helped lay the world-renowned activist to rest in 1965. Now, Friday, April 10, 2015, he too will be interred in the prestigious Ferncliff Cemetery.

World-renowned Egyptologist, Grand Kemetician Dr. Yosef Alfredo Antonio ben-Jochannan, affectionately known as “Dr. Ben,” will be laid to rest April 10 at Ferncliff Cemetery in Ardsley, N.Y., after a service at Harlem’s Abyssinian Baptist Church.

As the disheartening news spread that legendary African historian Dr. Yosef A.A. ben-Jochannan, aka Dr. Ben, had joined the ancestors early that Thursday morning, a few comrades reminisced on his glorious life and immeasurable influences.

Toward the front of the headquarters of the National Action Network in Harlem, there is a chair—no, a throne—that was placed there for the venerable Dr. Yosef ben-Jochannan. Every Saturday for more than a decade, “Dr. Ben,” as he was affectionately and internationally known, would arrive there and take his place as part of the audience, primarily to hear the Rev. Al Sharpton.

The tributes have been numerous and are continuing for the Black Man of the Nile. Having known “Dr. Ben,” as he is affectionately known, for many years from England to the U.S., this journalist was asked to attend the meeting and bear witness to the proceedings during the organizing of his funeral.

After being bed-ridden and placed in a specialized care unit at the Bay Park Nursing Home for the past several weeks, legendary Kemetaphysician Dr. Yosef A.A. ben-Jochannan, a.k.a. Dr. Ben, transitioned.
